Backstage Beauty: Elene Cassis S/S 2012 x L’Oreal Professionnel x Bobbi Brown Cosmetics

11 Oct

Elene Cassis made waves, literally, at this year’s Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. With the help of L’Oreal Professionnel and Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, her S/S 2012 collection cascaded down the runway showcasing a variety of textures and glamorous undone coifs.

I was able to catch up with L’Oreal’s Lead Stylist and 5 year NY Fashion Week vet, Amit Abraham, about what the latest trends will be for this upcoming S/S 2012 season:

“People are getting more comfy with their hair. More natural, less perms. They are ok with wearing what they have. Look forward to matte, dry hairstyles. Not too done.”

Amit’s inspiration for the styles for the Elene Cassis show came from the textures in the collection. To create the looks, he utilized a new ‘Crimping’ method, by applying L’Oreal Infinium 3 to hair and then wrapping aluminum foil around each section. He then clamped a barrel curling iron down the full length of the hair to make a wave pattern. The foil is used to conduct heat and help the waves last longer throughout the day.

Fresh Dust, a new L’Oreal product to hit salons in April 2012, was used to absorb oil on the hair and make it less shiny. This was the first test run for the product prior to the release date and was the key element to create the looks for the show.

Another product, Mythic Oil, which launches this month, is one of the latest L’Oreal Professionnel products. This multi-purpose oil was used on the models to protect the hair prior to styling, as well as a finishing product used for sealing the ends. This product contains a blend of avocado oil which nourishes the hair, in addition to grape seed oil, a powerful antioxidant.

For the makeup looks, Bobbi Brown Cosmetics’s Lead Makeup Artist, Miguel Collado, was on hand to give us insight on what palettes he used to create the looks for the show and what we should look forward to for next Spring:

“I wanted to recreate ‘Beautiful and Wearable’. Matte, fresh, natural finish. A dewy look. Look like yourself, but a little bit more pretty”.

Face: Skin Prep and Foundation

Eyes: Black Gel Liner to create angular line for cat eye look. Thin inside and thick outside. Candlelight Creme Shadow with Gold on top.

Cheekbones: Bronzer, Rose Gold Shimmer Brick on top with Pale Pink, Peony or Nectar.

Lips: Bare look using Beige Gold with Sunset on top.

Nolcha Fashion Week New York 2011

9 Oct

This year’s Nolcha Fashion Week New York was absolutely amazing! It showcased the latest S/S 2011 fashions from some of today’s top up and coming designers. In addition to the show, beauty brands were on site providing complimentary beauty services and free goodies.

KISS styled us with the Everlasting Pearl French Tip Nails and NEW Exotic Lashes. The coolest thing about these products are the user-friendly applicators. The nails have break-away applicator tabs, while the lashes have applicator strings to help ensure a faster, more precise application.

LypSyl equipped us with plenty of Lip Balm to get us through Fashion Week, and probably the end of the year! (LOL)

What’s great about this lip balm is the unique package design with the easy, sliding side bee applicator that helps you control the amount of lip balm you want to apply with each use. This product contains all natural pure Swedish Beeswax along with organic shea butter, coconut oil and Vitamin E & A.

The Body Shop: Helping To Change Our World Through Beauty

1 Oct

During this year’s Fashion’s Night Out in New York, The Body Shop hosted an exclusive event at their Broadway location to introduce the launch of their NEW Extra Virgin Minerals Collection, Shimmer Cubes and Carbon Eye Definers. Celebrity Makeup artist Shawnelle Prestidge was on hand to provide us with Gorgeous makeovers to help prep us for the night’s festivities, while also sharing a few of tips on how to create a variety of looks using this new collection.

Shawnelle is known for her amazing work as Blackbook Magazine’s Beauty Editor, as well as her skill of painting the faces of top celebs including Kate Moss and Zoe Saldana. During the makeovers, Shawnelle showed us how to achieve her Top 2 beauty trends for Fall: Smoky eyes and the Mod wing-tipped liner look. However, this season she highlighted swapping out your basic black for palettes of navy, gray, green or brown, to help transform these looks from special occasion to everyday.

The Shimmer Cubes definitely help make it convenient for you to achieve the smoky eye look because you get all 4 shadows in one palette! Its compact, and fits right inside your already overstuffed make up bag. The Carbon Eye Definers come with a built-in line smudger on the end, so now you can create multiple looks with just one pencil.

What makes the Body Shop collection stand out from other beauty brands is their commitment to The Community Fair Trade Program. 100% of the ingredients used to make these products are derived from Fair Trade Communities, and your purchase helps workers in such countries as Ghana, India, Nicaragua, Guatemala and Italy. In addition to helping improve financial conditions in other parts of the world, your purchase also helps you improve the quality of ingredients that you use on your skin.

The collection is composed of a variety of natural elements including pure cold-pressed extra virgin olive oil and marula oil. The extra virgin olive oil helps moisturize the skin, while the marula oil helps the Shimmer Cube pigments glide on easier and last much longer, compared to other brands.

The foundations, available in 12 shades, use a non-irritating formula, and are fragrance and paraben-free. This makes the line suitable for all skin types, including sensitive and blemished skin. They come in creme, liquid and loose powder formulas, so it is easy to choose the right product for your foundation needs. This foundation range will launch in stores in October 2011.

These products range in price from $13-25 and can be found at The Body Shop retail locations as well as TheBodyShop.com
