Runway Look

BODKIN F/W 2011 Presentation

Hair

  1. Spray Abba Volumizing Root Spray onto 1-t0-2 inch sections of dry hair. (Be sure to spray at the base of each section)
  2. Use a natural bristle brush, blow dry the hair from the root upward to create volume.
  3. Massage Abba Texture Cream liberally into all strands of the hair to create maximum texture. The hair should look organically worn and piecy.
  4. Create a center part using a wide-tooth comb followed by creating a low and loose ponytail.
  5. If the hair length doesn’t allow for this, then use your hands to pull the hair back and away from the face in a low, over the shoulder fashion.
  6. Dishevel the hair with your fingers and use Abba Firm Hold Hair Spray to keep the hair in place.
  7. To complete the runway style, gently loosen the pieces from underneath the ponytail to create a natural look.

Nude Plumping Lip Gloss: How to Skip the “Chalk Outline”

I bet 9 out of 10 of you have purchased that perfect shade of Nude plumping lip gloss, applied it and got that awful, chalky outline around your inner lips…..not to mention the horrible chapped appearance. Well don’t feel bad, it’s not your lips, it’s the plumping ingredients in the gloss.

All plumping glosses contain natural and chemical irritants that are used to stimulate the lips and give you a bee-stung look. Simultaneously, these ingredients can also cause the top layer of your lips to get scaly. Once that occurs, the pigment of the lip gloss settles into the cracks and an unsightly “chalk outline” appears.

In order to avoid this embarrassing reaction:

  1. First, apply Chapstick, vaseline, or any petroleum based lip product to your lips to form a barrier.
  2. Then apply the plumping lip gloss to your top and bottom lips, and then wait a few minutes
  3. Finally, add a dab of your favorite gloss shiny gloss to the bottom center of your lip

Tada! Sexy, plump lips and no chalk!

Tips on Avoiding Razor Bumps

Hair Removal. While some of us have resorted to bi-weekly waxing, there’s still a large percentage of the population that choose shaving with razors as their number one method for hair removal. It’s cheap, its easy, but there’s one downside: Razor Bumps.

Razor bumps are ingrown hairs and irritation that occur from shaving in different directions on one area of skin and unsanitary blades.

We all have different skin types, so for some of us, razor bumps or irritation are unavoidable.

But there are a few steps that you can take to keep the bumps at minimum:

  1. Make sure to clean your razor blades with rubbing alcohol after each use and change the blade after 3 uses
  2. Apply Neosporin to the skin once you’ve finished your hair removal. This can be done after waxing or shaving.
  3. Visit a dermatologist for a prescription of Evoclin. This product contains the antibiotic clindamycin phosphate, an ingredient that is used to treat acne and also reduce irritation. After shaving, wait 30 minutes, and then apply this topical solution to the clean, shaven area.

Shimmery Eyeshadow:

How to make it wear longer

We all love to try those pretty sheer, shimmery colors…only problem, you blink, and its almost as if you never applied eyeshadow!

The best way to make powder eyeshadow stay longer is to apply a creme base to your lids. You can try M.A.C. Cosmetics Creme Colour Base in a neutral shade like Pearl, or you can apply concealer to your lids for a quick, inexpensive fix.

How to apply:

Using your finger, dab the base all over your eye lid and any where under the brow bone where you will be applying shadow. Then, apply the shadow in light layers until you get the desired amount of pigment on your lids. Applying in layers is best to avoid applying too much color in one spot.

How it works:

The creme base holds the loose shadow in place and prevents it from dusting or rubbing off easily.

Aspirin…Not just for headaches

Up until recently, I only reached for aspirin when I was in need of relief from pain or a terrible headache. Who would of known that those tiny little miracle workers could also be used as beauty first aid?!

Aspirin works as an anti-inflammatory that reduces redness and swelling. Here are a few different ways that you can use aspirin to help treat some of the most problematic areas we all suffer from.

Rough Feet

  1. Grind six aspirin into a fine powder and place in a bowl
  2. Add 1/2 teaspoon of water and a 1/2 teaspoon of lemon juice to the bowl.
  3. Blend the mixture until you have thick paste
  4. Apply the paste to the heels of your feet and any calluses
  5. Put on a pair of thick socks and sleep with the mixture on your feet overnight
  6. When you awake, remove the socks and use a pumice stone to smooth the rough areas

Problem Pimple

  1. Grind 1 aspirin and place in a bowl
  2. Add a few drops of water and blend to make a paste
  3. Apply the paste to your pimple and let sit for 5 minutes
  4. Wash the paste off with a gentle cleanser or soap, and water
  5. Repeat daily as necessary until pimple reduces

D.I.Y. Oatmeal Facial Mask

Oatmeal on the face? Bet you didn’t know that oatmeal can be used for more than just a breakfast meal. It is a natural  ingredient that has been proven to treat conditions including dry, irritated, acne prone and oily skin.

All you will need for the following recipe is:

Oatmeal: Skin calming ingredient

Honey: A natural humectant

Egg white: Forms the consistency of the mask

Olive oil: Adds moisture to dry skin

Lemon juice: Evens out skin tone and fades blemishes

Follow the below steps:

  1. Cleanse face and neck.
  2. Cook 1/2 cup of oatmeal and sit to the side to cool.
  3. Whip one egg white in separate bowl, and it to the oatmeal. Stir the mixture until you have a smooth consistency
  4. Add a teaspoon of honey, a few drops of lemon juice and a few drops of Olive Oil. Continue to stir mixture until smooth.
  5. Gently apply the mixture to your face. Concentrate on any problem areas. AVOID CONTACT WITH EYE AREA
  6. Lay down and allow the mask to dry for at least 15 mins. As it hardens, your face will become itchy which will mean its time to rinse
  7. Rinse the facial off of your face using lukewarm water. DO NOT RINSE WITH HOT WATER
  8. Pat dry and apply a light moisturizer

The result is a smooth and calm complexion!

Jojoba Oil: All in One

Beauty Solution

No eye makeup remover? Lips feeling dry? A little Jojoba Oil can go a long way.

What exactly is Jojoboa oil? Pronounced ho-HO-ba, it is  is a botanical extract of the seed of the jojoba tree. Funny thing is that it’s not actually an oil, but a wax ester. This ingredient, wax ester, is the closest substance to the actual oil that the human skin produces (sebum). It has been said that applying jojoba to the skin can make the skin think it is producing enough oil. This balances oil production. Jojoba oil is also great because it does not clog pores. It is highly concentrated, so a few drops go a long way.

Jojoba Oil has various uses including:

  • Eye Makeup remover
  • Massage Oil
  • An added supplement to facial cleansers and hair conditioners
  • Skin, lip and hair moisturizer
  • Pre-shaving skin treatment
  • Massage Oil

I love this product and I make sure I have a vial handy every time I travel. It’s very gentle on the eyes and gives my hair just the right amount of moisture.

Vaseline x Eyelash Curler = Magic

Want to wake up your eyes in the morning without looking like you’re ready to hit the club? Grab some vaseline (petroleum jelly) and an eyelash curler.

  1. Use your middle finger and thumb to gently coat your lashes with the vaseline.
  2. Then hold the eyelash curl in place on each set of eyelashes for 5 seconds

….and then Tada! Beautiful, natural looking curled lashes.

Homemade Lip Exfoliator

As the winter air gets colder, our lips get drier, and drier. As a result, they tend to chap and give off unsightly flakes. Solution? Go purchase a pricey lip scrub or make one yourself!

  1. Just grab a container of petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline) and some fine grain sugar.
  2. Mix a small amount of the jelly with a teaspoon of sugar and mix in a bowl. You can also add a few drops of olive oil to the concoction to make it even smoother.
  3. Gently scrub the mixture over your lips until all flakes are gone

…and Voila! Smooth, kissable lips.

How to De-Clump your Mascara

Hate how your Mascara tends to get thick and goopy after just a month? Nothing a little baby oil and hot water can’t fix.

  1. Just open your mascara tube and put a few drops of baby oil in.
  2. Then fill your sink up with hot water and let the tube sit in the water for about                            30 minutes.
  3. Remove the tube from the water and dry it off.
  4. Then proceed to shake the tube up.
  5. Take out the wand and your mascara will be as good as new.

*Remember to always replace your mascara every 3 months and avoid sharing your mascara to prevent the spread of bacteria.

D.I.Y. Deep Conditioning Treatment

Hair (especially curly or chemically treated hair) can get very dry sometimes. In order to bring it back to life and keep it healthy, we need to deep condition the hair at least once a week. The best deep conditioners are made with ingredients right in our pantry. Mayonnaise, Eggs, and Avocados are all great moisturizing ingredients. One of the best concoctions that I’ve found involves honey, milk, olive oil and flour. Honey is a natural humectant, so it brings moisture to the hair.

Here’s the recipe:

1. Put a good amount of Olive Oil, Honey and Soy Milk in a bowl

  1. (You judge the amount you want to  put in based on how long your hair is)
  2. Put the bowl in the microwave for 60 seconds.
  3. Take the bowl out of the microwave and add a Tablespoon of flour (more depending on the amount of oil in the bowl). You want to mix this all together with a spoon until it gets to a thicker consistency similar to a store bought conditioner.
  4. Wet your hair. Then put the warm mixture on your hair and put a plastic cap or bag on your head. Then wrap a towel around your head and let it sit for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Wash it out of your hair and use your normal conditioner.
  6. Then on your final rinse, mix Apple Cider Vinegar with warm water in a large cup and rinse your hair with it. This step makes your shiny and removes build up.

The results will be SUPER soft hair!
